Max-Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology (MPIMM)

The Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology (MPIMM) investigates the diversity and functions of marine microorganisms and their interactions with the marine environment. The focus of the Microbial Genomics and Bioinformatics Research Group is on developing enabling technologies to transform the wealth of sequence and environmental data into biological knowledge. Techniques are whole genome and metagenome analysis, sequence classification, phylogenetic inference as well as software and database development for integrated data analysis. MPIMM will contribute to the joint research activity to implement the Genomic Observatories (GO) as part of EMBRC. MPIMM has established the Ocean Sampling Day (OSD) network and conducted OSD in 2014 and 2015 as part of the 7FP project Micro B3. Transferring the experiences and technological expertise and software components to establish the GO network will be
a central task of MPIMM. MPIMM will contribute to NA2.
