Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn (SZN)

SZN is operated by the Italian Ministry of Research and Education (MIUR). It hosts 135 permanent staff of which 58 are researchers; 179 people work under temporary contracts (PhD students, post docs, technical support). It is focussed on integrating molecular genetic and genomic techniques into marine and fundamental biological research, to explore the cellular and tissue functions of marine model species, the ecology and lifestyles of marine organisms, their roles in ecosystem functioning, and their possible applications in blue biotechnologies. SZN provides access to species-rich Mediterranean ecosystems including seagrass beds and a shallow high-CO2–low pH volcanic cold seep. Model taxa include microalgae, seagrass, echinoderms, cephalopods, ascidians (Ciona intestinalis), Amphioxus and marine turtles.

SZN will offer TA, will lead NA1 and will contribute to NA3, NA4, JRA1, JRA3 and JRA4.
