Université Pierre et Marie Curie Paris VI (UPMC)

The Université Pierre et Marie Curie (UPMC) is one of the largest universities in France (4,500 researchers and teachers, 180 laboratories, 30,000 students, 700 PhDs delivered per year) and is devoted to science and medicine. The UPMC is ranked 35th (6th in Europe) in the ARWU Shanghai University ranking in 2014.

UPMC is hosting the EMBRC Headquarters in Paris and, together with (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique) CNRS, is also leading EMBRC-France. This is a research infrastructure distributed over three marine biological stations: the SBR (Station Biologique de Roscoff) located in Brittany on the Atlantic coast; OOV (Observatoire Océanologique de Villefranche sur mer) and OOB (Observatoire Océanologique de Banyuls sur mer), located at either extremity of the French Mediterranean coast. These three complementary installations of the French node are all run by the same operators (UPMC and CNRS) and are an undeniable force in marine biology and oceanography. With a long tradition of transnational access (TA) dedicated to collaborative marine research worldwide, since they were established in the late 19th century, they operate as unique research infrastructure, by providing access for researchers, both permanent
and non-resident, to coastal ecosystems, and to a wide range of living organisms and to different marine organism collections (microalgae at SBR, bacteriae at OOB and microplankton at OOV). UPMC will be the overall coordinator of the project, it will offer TA, it will lead WP1 and JRA3 and JRA4, and participate actively in all other JRAs and NAs.
