“Our MicroBE project was very successful. The biofilm mesocosms were ready in advance of our visit (above right) with great technical support. An excellent example of the ASSEMBLE Plus ethos and the study will lead to publications and further work.”
Dr Cedric Hubas, Station de Biologie Marin, Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle, France

Our new £16 million investment in marine science infrastructure strengthens our offer to the EMBRC-ERIC and ASSEMBLE Plus communities. The SOI laboratory hosts expertise in marine mammals, coastal and deep-sea ecology and dynamics, fisheries, climate change, bioacoustics, mathematical modelling, and marine microbiology.

Our beach location on the East coast of Scotland in the historic town of St Andrews offers access to a wide variety of pristine natural ecosystems including saltmarshes, mudflats, rocky shores, and islands. We have inshore vessels and strong logistic support.

  • Sea mammals research and seal holding facilities.
